George Marques

George specialises in advising companies, directors, managers and shareholders on various aspects of corporate, commercial and intellectual property law and joined Redfern Legal as its Head of Corporate in January 2022.

George is a dual qualified senior solicitor who trained with Borden & Elliot (now Borden Ladner Gervais) in Toronto, Canada. He has since worked as a commercial, IP and transactional lawyer in private practice and inhouse counsel roles in Canada and the United Kingdom. In addition, he has over a decade of project management and business experience gained at Fortune 500 companies and in cross-border entrepreneurial ventures in Canada, Spain, Portugal and Brazil.

He focuses his practice on general corporate matters including share and asset acquisitions/disposals, dissolutions/liquidations, international joint ventures, foreign parent/subsidiary formations, corporate governance, secured lending/finance, angel/early-stage equity & convertible finance, share capital rationalisations/re-organisations/buyouts.

George’s intellectual property law experience spans software/technology licensing, patent copyright & trademark applications/registrations, prior-art searches and patentability issues, business/trademark/domain name conflicts. He also advises on a variety of commercial matters including procurement, supply, outsourcing, distribution, title retention/factoring arrangements, Saas/Xaas platform agreements, confidentiality/NDA arrangements, consumer protection, and UK/EU GDPR.

George speaks fluent Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese and conversational French.
