I think it is always helpful to look at positives when faced with adversity. So I compiled a list of the positives I see in the current tube strike hitting workers in the capital.
- What great weather we have been enjoying, so far at least
- More people walking – healthy exercise, more people achieving 10,000 steps in the day
- Taxis, Uber and bike companies doing well
- Some people may be on a bus for first time – a great experience
- The Elizabeth line is truly great
- Tube strikes no longer have the power to threaten working life in London as they used to pre Covid. But yes, they do threaten the income of theatres, pubs and restaurants
- The strike shows the unions don’t need more strike powers. So please remove those parts from the Employment Bill going through Parliament which seek to give them more powers
- We can wonder in amazement how tube drivers want a cut in working hours from 35 to 32 when nurses and doctors are working around the clock.
I appreciate there will be other positives to draw from this latest experience but the above is a good start.
